The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service publishes Gaelic language plan

Publish Date:

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continues to work hard to meet local needs and protect communities through the forthcoming launch of its Gaelic Language Plan.

The national Service is in the process of identifying personnel who are proficient in the language and how frequently Gaelic is used by community groups when they make contact with the Service.

And this will assist in identifying where the provision of translated materials could support prevention efforts to reduce risk and ensure community safety.

The Plan also signals the SFRS’ commitment to raising the profile of - and supporting equal respect of - Gaelic language and its rich and diverse culture.

The comprehensive strategy meets the requirements as set out within the Gaelic Language Act 2005, and supports Bòrd na Gàidhlig guidance.

And it will be unveiled on the SFRS website and available to view at www.firescotland.gov.uk

All public bodies covered by the Act are required to take steps to promote the sustainability of Gaelic language and culture.

SFRS will support the delivery of the Plan with assistance from the Equality and Diversity Team through 2021.

The move was welcomed by Elaine Gerrard who is Equality and Diversity Manager for the SFRS.

She said: “The Service wishes to take this opportunity to thank the Bòrd for their support in the development of the Plan and their ongoing advice with regards to its implementation.

“The Service is also grateful to the Bòrd for the provision of funding to support key features of the Plan’s implementation relating to translation and furthering the understanding of Gaelic language and culture.

“Our Service worked really hard, while preparing the Plan, to ensure it was considerate of the needs and expectations of those local communities where Gaelic language and culture is a vital and key part of daily life.”

She added: “There is no doubt whatsoever that this approach supports the Service’s operating model of delivering a national Service that is responsive to and respectful of local needs.”

Tha Seirbheis Smàlaidh is Teasairginn na h-Alba a’ leantainn air adhart le a h-obair chruaidh gus feumalachdan ionadail a choileanadh agus gus coimhearsnachdan a dhìon tro bhith a’ cur a Plana Gàidhlig air bhog a dh’aithghearr.

Tha an t-Seirbheis nàiseanta an sàs ann a bhith a’ comharrachadh luchd-obrach a tha fileanta sa Ghàidhlig agus a’ faighinn a-mach cho tric ’s a bhios Gàidhlig ga cleachdadh le buidhnean coimhearsnachd nuair a bhios iad ann an conaltradh leis an t-Seirbheis.

Agus cuidichidh seo gus obrachadh a-mach far am b’ urrainn do stuthan eadar-theangaichte taic a chumail ri oidhirpean gus cunnart a lùghdachadh agus gus dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil coimhearsnachdan sàbhailte.

Tha am Plana cuideachd a’ cur an cèill gealltanas SFRS a bhith a’ togail ìomhaigh na Gàidhlig - agus a bhith a’ toirt spèis cho-ionann dhan Ghàidhlig agus a cultar beairteach eadar-mheasgte.

Tha an ro-innleachd fharsaing seo a’ coileanadh nan riatanasan ann an Achd na Gàidhlig 2005, agus leantainn stiùireadh Bhòrd na Gàidhlig.

Agus thèid am Plana fhoillseachadh air làrach-lìn SFRS agus bidh e ri fhaicinn bho Dhiluain, 31 Dùbhlachd aig

Feumaidh gach buidheann poblach a tha a’ tighinn fon Achd ceuman a ghabhail gus seasmhachd na Gàidhlig agus a cultar adhartachadh.

Bheir SFRS taic do lìbhrigeadh a’ Phlana le cuideachadh bhon Sgioba Co-ionannachd is Iomadachd tro 2021.

Chuir Elaine Gerrard, a tha na Manaidsear Co-ionnanachd is Iomadachd airson SFRS, fàilte air a’ ghluasad.

Thuirt i: "Tha an t-Seirbheis airson an cothrom seo a ghabhail gus taing a thoirt don Bhòrd airson an taic le bhith ag ullachadh a’ Phlana agus airson an comhairle leantainneach mu bhith ga chur an gnìomh.

"Tha an t-Seirbheis cuideachd taingeil dhan Bhòrd airson maoineachadh a thoirt seachad gus cuideachadh le bhith a’ cur phrìomh fheartan den Phlana an gnìomh a tha co-cheangailte ri eadar-theangachadh agus ri neartachadh tuigse air a’ Ghàidhlig agus a cultar.

"Dh’obraich an t-Seirbheis againn gu cruaidh, fhad ’s a bha i ag ullachadh a' Phlana, gus dèanamh cinnteach gun robh i mothachail air feumalachdan agus miannan nan coimhearsnachdan ionadail far a bheil a’ Ghàidhlig agus a cultar na pàirt riatanach agus cudromach den bheatha làitheil."

Lean i oirre: "Chan eil teagamh sam bith ann nach eil an dòigh-obrach seo a rèir modail obrachaidh na Seirbheis air lìbhrigeadh seirbheis nàiseanta a tha a’ freagairt air agus a’ toirt spèis air feumalachdan ionadail.”
