Overview of the interview for the role of firefighter control

Interviews

Candidates will be invited to attend an interview lasting approximately 1 hour.

There are a variety of interview questions that may be asked, including:

  • Competency based: It is aim to find out how you have used specific skills in your previous experience and how you approach problems, tasks and challenges.
  • Reflective: It will ask you to think about your experience, and consider what went well, what could have gone better, how you could have done things differently, or what you identified as a development need.
  • Ability-based: It allows you to demonstrate the skills outlined in the job description. They are used to assess whether your skills match those required for the role.
  • Technical: Technical interview questions can be used to assess your level of subject knowledge for the position you're applying for.
  • Opinion-based: These questions are unusual as there's no single correct answer. These questions determine how you think on your feet and prevent you from pre-planning answers.
