The region's Community Action Team are carrying out food and prescription deliveries for people unable to get out of their homes due to social shielding.

The team has also carried out vital befriending calls with vulnerable people to ensure they have all they need to live happily and safely.

Deliveries have been undertaken in North and South Ayrshire and calls made to those shielding in East Ayrshire.

Colin Clark is our Local Area Liaison officer for the area.

He said: "This has been a good partnership between the councils and ourselves.

"Their work has changed, but the CAT Team still want to be involved in helping the community.

"It's what they are used to and it's what they want to do."

Gerry Mongiardini has been one of those involved in delivering parcels and making calls.

He said: "As a team, we have been working to try and give people a bit of empowerment back to their life by asking if there is anything they would like assistance with.

"Our team have dealt with numerous issues whilst making our welfare calls, ranging from mental health concerns and people not feeling safe in their own home due to being extremely vulnerable.

"While we have been making calls or making deliveries it's also given us an opportunity to promote fire safety in the home and offer our free Home Fire Safety Visits  once this has passed.

"People have been grateful to have someone fighting their corner. It's very rewarding work."
