Operations Control mobilised nine appliances and specialist resources to the scene when alerted at 7.11pm on Monday, October 18.
Four terrace houses were affected by the explosion and crews worked to extinguish any fires and make the area safe.
Four people were handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.
Two fire appliances remain in attendance as of 2.30pm on Tuesday, October 19.
Area Commander Ian McMeekin is the local senior officer for East, North and South Ayrshire.
He said: "Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this incident.
"This has been an extremely complex and challenging incident which significantly damaged multiple properties in the area and resulted in the evacuation of other nearby homes. We will remain in attendance for some time as we work with our partners to ensure the area is safe.
"A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland will be carried out in due course to establish the full facts and circumstances."
