Firefighters help Disney princesses learn CPR at colourful ‘Killie-Con’
Firefighters in Ayrshire switched their uniforms for cosplay at their recent Killie Con event.
Firefighters in Ayrshire who switched their uniforms for cosplay to raise funds for a local children’s charity have thanked the community for its support and encouraged people to return for their next event.
More than 1000 people came to Kilmarnock Community Fire Station’s colourful 'Killie Con' event organised by Comic Con fan and SFRS Crew Commander Leroy Shaw.
“The day saw Disney princesses learn first-aid, Marvel superheroes sit in a replica Iron Throne, Star Wars heroes sit inside real fire engines and plenty of people enjoy stalls, games and entertainment from the Ayrshire Rock Choir," he said.
“We like to host creative and unusual events to bring as much fun as we can to people in our communities – this was a special one.
“They also help us share important safety advice and offer support to anyone wanting to learn more about a career in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”
Mr Shaw, who dressed as Super Saiyan Goku from Dragon Ball Z complete with his trademark blonde spiky wig, was blown away by the community’s creativity and support.
“Thank you to everyone who helped raise £500 for the Crosshouse Hospital Children’s Charity, which supports children in hospital in Ayrshire and Arran,” he said.
“It was great to see so many people dress up, enjoy the day and help support local kids and their families going through tough times.
“We’re already planning our Killieween event for Halloween and we’ll have lots of scary surprises and games. It will be another fun event and all donations will again be going to Crosshouse Hospital Children’s Charity.”
Killieween will be held on Friday, 25 October from 4.30pm-8.30pm at Kilmarnock Community Fire Station.
