Spreading Festive Cheer throughout Scotland
From Inverness to Lesmahagow, our firefighters have been helping to spread festive cheer in the communities they serve all year round.
From fundraising to collecting and delivering essential items and toys, as well as supporting local food banks, a big thank you to all of our staff for helping to make a difference to the lives of many people this Christmas.
In Ayr: Watch Commander Vicky Hodge was busy being elf and collected many parcels for charity Night Before Christmas to provide gift boxes for children and young people.
In Dumfries and Galloway: Our Youth Volunteer Scheme members became elves as they helped pack bags for a local shoe box appeal.
In Dundee: Kingsway East Community Fire station combined efforts with local partners to donate parcels of warm clothing and toys to community centres for distribution to families in need.
In Glasgow: Easterhouse Community Fire Station opened its doors for a cuppa and a chat and were also offering free fruit and vegetables.
In Inverbervie, Aberdeenshire: Lots of people came out to see Santa when he made the trip to the local fire station and around £1,300 has been raised for local good causes.
In Inverness: Amber Watch at Inverness Community Fire Station have been busy coordinating Santa’s diary to make sure he can visit the children’s ward at Raigmore Hospital on Christmas Day and there’s sure to be donations of toys and gifts to help Santa with his delivery.
In Kilwinning, Ayrshire: Santa’s drive-by at the community fire station saw hundreds of cars turn out to see Mr and Mrs Claus, who ensured everyone had some delicious home baking. The station also held a ‘quiet’ session to ensure children who are sensitive to noise and lights didn’t miss out.
In Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire: Local crews held a charity Santa Walk and around 400 people from the local community joined in. Families were able to visit a Santa’s Grotto and take part in many activities raising around £700 for charity.
In Nairn, Highland: Firefighters took part in the annual ‘Santa’s Sleigh’ appeal and their fundraising efforts are nearing £10,000.
In New Cumnock, Ayrshire: Staff held a Christmas market to support the local community.
In Perth: the station set themselves a goal in October of collecting 500 gifts for their local communities. They smashed their target and collected and distributed 800 gifts in their area.
Have a lovely festive season and remember to keep you and your loved ones safe at this time of year.
