Updates on the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service's response to severe weather

Storm Éowyn

The Met Office has released a series of severe weather warnings for tomorrow (Friday, 24 January) across Scotland due to Storm Éowyn.

A red warning for wind has been issued for the Central Belt of Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway and some of the Western Isles.

An Amber warning is also in place for wind for the rest of the country.

Yellow warnings for wind and snow remain in place nationally.

This means travel conditions are likely to be extremely dangerous across parts of Scotland and travel is not advised unless absolutely essential.

Statement from Deputy Chief Officer Andy Watt

Andy Watt, Deputy Chief Officer of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We expect to have resources committed to incidents across the country and to support our partners during Storm Éowyn. 

“This is a carefully planned and coordinated operation. We have robust contingency measures in place to ensure we can continue respond effectively to protect our communities and staff throughout the storm. 

“This will be a challenging period, and we strongly urge members of the public to avoid travelling and to follow safety advice and guidance issued by your local authority and the emergency services.”
