The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been recognised for supporting the armed forces community

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is proud to announce that we have received the prestigious Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for our unwavering commitment to supporting the Armed Forces.

This recognition is a testament to our dedication to ensuring those who have served, who continue to serve, and their families, are not disadvantaged in the workplace.

Iain Morris is the SFRS Acting Director of Asset Management.

He said: “We are delighted to attain this prestigious recognition. We have a small team working on this over the past 12 months, and this is a testimony and recognition of their hard work.

“We look forward to promoting this further across SFRS and our wider partner organisations. This also reiterates our people's focus on ensuring that the support for military personnel is at the highest level.”

The ERS supports employers in advocating for the Armed Forces Community.

Watch Commander Willie Stoops is the SFRS Veterans Coordinator.

He said: “For SFRS employees who also serve in the UK Reserve Forces (UK RF), this award means additional ten days of paid leave for training that will play a vital role in supporting the UK’s interests at home and abroad.

“This support is critical and enormously welcome for the prosperity and security of the UK.”

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh later this year, where the accolade will be presented.
